The calendar is a curriculum. Every year the whole nation walked through its own story with its body.
A lunar month inside a solar year, and how they reconciled the two. Why the date of a feast moves against our calendar, and why that is not sloppiness.
Sabbath. The three pilgrim feasts — Pesach, Shavuot, Sukkot — plus the sabbatical year and the Jubilee.
The key idea is worth sitting with: the calendar is a curriculum. Israel did not primarily learn its story by hearing it explained. It learned by walking through it annually, with its feet and its hands and its food, in company with everyone else.
One quiet note in passing: Shavuot is Pentecost. We will leave that sitting there without explanation for now.
Read: Leviticus 23
The feast calendar in one chapter. Skim it. Notice how much of it is about stopping work.
Entirely optional. Come either way.
Sit with this week’s passage and see what the Spirit shows you in it — a connection, a question, something that will not leave you alone, something you think the rest of us need to hear. That is not an interruption of the night. That is the night.
The subject above is the field we are working, and it is a real boundary. The Spirit who inspired these texts is the one who lights them up, and he does not compete with himself. What he gives will open this material further, not change the channel.
Send it ahead if you can, by replying to the message that brought you here. We open by hearing what the week turned up, before anybody explains anything.
