From Tent to Temple to Exile

Term 2 — The Story: Eden to Exile

The fast arc — centuries in one night. We will trace the covenant line rather than the history.

What we will do

The tabernacle, and why it is described with such obsessive care. Tribal allotments on the wall map. The judges cycle, with shophet revisited now that we have the word.

The demand for a melek 'like the other nations' — and what it costs. Then 2 Samuel 7: a covenant with a king whose son God will call his own son. The family thread again, now running through a dynasty.

Solomon's temple as a cosmic mountain, echoing the temple-shaped cosmos from Session 7.

Then the kingdom splits. Assyria and Babylon arrive — and by now we already know why the armies come through this particular strip of land, which is Term 1 paying its full dividend.

The prophets as covenant prosecutors, working the treaty's curse clauses. Jeremiah 31 and a new covenant. And Ezekiel watching the glory leave the building.

Words

Before we meet

Read: 2 Samuel 7:1–17

David wants to build God a house. Watch how God turns the word 'house' around on him.

Entirely optional. Come either way.

Bring what you find

Sit with this week’s passage and see what the Spirit shows you in it — a connection, a question, something that will not leave you alone, something you think the rest of us need to hear. That is not an interruption of the night. That is the night.

The subject above is the field we are working, and it is a real boundary. The Spirit who inspired these texts is the one who lights them up, and he does not compete with himself. What he gives will open this material further, not change the channel.

Send it ahead if you can, by replying to the message that brought you here. We open by hearing what the week turned up, before anybody explains anything.
